Östermalm is the most distinguished and traditional area in Stockholm. Here you will find some of the city’s classic restaurants and cultural institutions as well as some of the trendiest boutiques, night clubs, and bars. Östermalm is known for its many beautiful examples of Neo-Renaissance architecture, some of which can be seen on the famous and exclusive street Strandvägen. This area is one of the best places to go shopping for haute couture, antiques and collectible designer artifacts. As well as being a place of fun and luxury, Östermalm offers its residents many lush and peaceful green areas such as Norra Djurgården, and Gärdet. We hope you will find an apartment on Östermalm that fits and otherwise we have several Corporate Apartments in Stockholm and Corporate Apartments in Sweden if you are looking for accommodation in another city.

Communications

Östermalm covers a wide and long area stretching along the eastern part of central Stockholm. It is a very accessible and well communicated neighborhood with its two main metro stations being Östermalmstorg and Tekniska Högskolan, both on the red line. Three of the city’s main bus lines – 1, 2 and 4 – run through this area. There are two tram lines going in and out of Östermalm – Roslagsbanan runs out towards the north eastern suburbs and Spårväg City connects the Central station with Djurgården through Östermalm. There are also commuter boats traveling from Nybrokajen to the northern and southern outskirts of Stockholm. Östermalm has also very well planned cycleways which make it easy to bike through the neighborhood for both commuters and leisure riders.

What locals do

Design and Antiques
Swedish culture at its finest is easy to come across in Östermalm if you visit places such as the design shop Svenskt Tenn, the well curated book shop Rönnells Antikvariat or one of the many galleries and antique shops in the area.

City Strolling
At Östermalmstorg, one of the oldest market halls in the country locals flock before the weekend or holidays. Here you will find a wide and exclusive selection of deli foods, local produce and traditional Swedish food. Many residents of Östermalm enjoy spending their Sundays around Karlaplan. The flea market, the rustic french restaurant Cassi and the Tösse bakery are a few classic spots in the area.

Our favourite spots

Parks and recreation
The residents of Östermalm are lucky to enjoy a variety of charming parks such as Tessinparken, Humlegården and Norra Djurgården. Most of the green areas in this neighborhood are equipped with outdoor gym facilities. In the area in and around Humlegården you will also find great places to have a meal or a drink such as Omnipollos flora, Taverna Brillo, and Tyge & Sessil.

The Engelbrekt Church
The classic Neo-Renaissance architecture of Östermalm makes this area one of Stockholm’s most aesthetically pleasing although its perhaps most impressive building is a great example of a very different style – early 1900s Art Nouveau architecture: The Engelbrekt Church and the park surrounding it are well worth a visit. The area between Strandvägen and Karlavägen is also beautiful, full of history and home to many interesting museums and galleries.

District of Dolce Vita
Stureplan is the vibrant epicentre of the lavish Stockholm nightlife. Around the famous mushroom shaped landmark Svampen, you can visit what are by now well established Östermalm party institutions: Spy Bar, East, Sturehof, and Sturecompagniet. If you’re more of a fine diner than a party animal you can always find your way to the classic Swedish cuisine flagships Riche and Konstnärsbaren or the more avant garde Michelin star restaurants Etoile and Gastrologik.
